U.S. Stock Market Indications by MarketWatch February 26, 2014: Stock futures edge higher ahead of home sales.

Watts and Barbara Kollmeyer , MarketWatch  NEW YORK (MarketWatch) — Stock index futures pointed slightly higher Wednesday as investors pore over results from retailers and await data on home sales, looking for clues to the health of the U.S. economy.  On the charts, investors are watching the S&P 500 index SPX -0.14%  as it struggles to surpass the 1,850 level. Two Federal Reserve officials are also due to speak.  Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJH4 +0.12%  rose 17 points to 16,204, while S&P 500 index futures SPH4 +0.13%  added 2.

By  Barbara Kollmeyer  and  Anora Mahmudova , MarketWatch NEW YORK (MarketWatch) — U.S. stock futures extended losses Wednesday day as the weaker-than-expected ADP employment report set a gloomier tone for the official non-farm payrolls data due on Friday. More economic signals will come later in the Institute for Supply Management’s nonmanufacturing survey. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average  DJH4   -0.10%   fell 46 points, or 0.3% to 15,293, while futures for the S&P 500 index  SPH4   -0.47%   eased 9 points, or 0.5%, to 1,735.30. Futures for the Nasdaq-100  NDH4   -0.38%   fell 14.5 points, or 0.4%, to 3,435. Private-sector-employment gains slowed down in January, as  employers added 175,000 jobs , while the December number was revised down to 227,000, according to the Automatic Data Processing Inc. report released on Wednesday.
