CBS | Coming Up On CBS Sunday Morning Over 50 & Unemployed; Plus, Pat Metheny and Chris Rock

The CBS Sunday Morning newsletter

The job creation numbers released on Friday were certainly encouraging news for the millions of Americans out work, but the nation's unemployment rate still remains stubbornly high. And for those folks looking for a job, a prolonged search can take its toll on their health and well being. In this week's "Sunday Morning" cover story, correspondent Tracy Smith looks at the difficulties and frustrations faced by people over 50, who are out pounding the pavement and surfing the Internet in the hope of finding work.
By any measure, Pat Metheny is considered one of the world's great guitarists. He has won 17 Grammys and developed a style of jazz playing all his own. But what really sets him apart is his musical virtuosity and vision. Correspondent Russ Mitchell gets to see both when he visits Metheny and gets a close-up look at the guitarist's latest project, the "Orchestrion." It's literally an orchestra of musical robots conducted by Metheny himself. You need to hear it to believe it!
On April 4, 1968, in Memphis, Tenn., Martin Luther King was assassinated. His legacy of seeking justice through non-violent protest still resonates with us today, just as the deed of assassin James Earl Ray still haunts us. Correspondent Mark Strassmann, with the assistance of author Hampton Sides, looks back at that dreadful day in Memphis.
It may seem hard to believe, but in today's digital gaming age, the simple, unplugged board game is making a comeback. If you're thinking "Monopoly" and "Candy Land," think again. According to contributor Mo Rocca, these are not the board games of your childhood, but new foreign imports with snappy names like "Rattis," "Pandemic" and "Power Grid."
Chris Rock has certainly made a name for himself as a stand up comic, TV personality and film funnyman. Now, he wants to take on Broadway. Correspondent Harry Smith talks with Rock about his successful career and the challenges, as well as anxiety in preparing for his Broadway debut.
Those stories and more this Sunday Morning. Listen for the trumpet.
