Vice-President Vizcarra Must Assume the Presidency As Soon as PPK Presents his Resignation
Ernesto Álvarez, former president of the Constitutional Court, explained that after the resignation of the Head of State, the president of the Congress must convene an extraordinary session of the plenary to report the resignation presented, wrote Gestión.
A date and time should also be set for the Vice-President, Martín Vizcarra, to be sworn in as the new President of Peru.
“The Head of State continues to be Pedro Pablo Kuczynski (PPK) insofar as he must remain in charge of the office administratively until his replacement arrives”, told Álvarez to Gestión, adding that he must be replaced as soon as possible. The swearing of Vizcarra will take place within eight hours of his arrival from Canada.
Álvarez also considered it “unlikely” that the Congress will initiate a vacancy process against him tomorrow, and that a possibility that the resignation won’t be accepted by the congressmen exists as well.
