FTC News and Events Published on April 7, 2016: FTC to Host Data Security Conference in Chicago June 15.

FTC@100 Banner

Fourth Event in “Start With Security” Series Will Be Keynoted by FTC Commissioner Maureen Ohlhausen
The Federal Trade Commission will host a one-day conference in Chicago on June 15, 2016, on how companies can secure their products, services, and networks. The event will focus on guidance for startups and other small and medium-sized businesses about how to make security considerations a part of their companies’ culture.
FTC Commissioner Maureen Ohlhausen will provide opening remarks for the conference, which will be the fourth “Start with Security” event nationwide. The conference will bring together experts in data security to provide guidance to businesses.
The conference will take place at, and is co-sponsored by, the Northwestern Pritzker School of Law. A full agenda will be made available in the weeks leading up to the conference.
In addition to holding conferences around the country, the FTC has created extensive new business education materials to help companies think about how to incorporate strong security practices.
The business guidance lays out ten key steps to effective data security drawn from the alleged facts in the FTC’s data security cases and is designed to provide an easy way for companies to understand the lessons learned from those previous cases. Available as a guidebook and a series of videos, the guidance includes references to the cases, as well as plain-language explanations of the security principles behind them.

Kitco News - April 7, 2016: How Badly Does China Want Gold? - Part 2 with Jim Rickards.

Kitco NEWS

Published on Apr 7, 2016
In best-selling author Jim Rickards’ latest book, the New Case For Gold, he brings up one of the most common criticisms of a new gold standard – that there is not enough gold to support it. Rickards makes the argument that it would work at a certain price level. In his interview with Kitco News, Rickards also discusses China and gold buying. He suggests that China is suppressing the gold price through the COMEX market in order to build-up more physical supplies. Once they have a sufficient supply, equal to the United States, they will no longer care what the metal's price is and it will likely skyrocket, he explains.

Like all assumptions about prices, sometimes it is true and sometimes not.

FRB Press Release on April 7, 2016: Federal Reserve Board proposes technical amendments to rule requiring global systemically important bank holding companies to hold additional amounts of risk-based capital

www.federalreserve.gov
Release Date: April 7, 2016

The Federal Reserve Board on Thursday proposed technical amendments to its rule requiring global systemically important bank holding companies (GSIBs) to hold additional amounts of risk-based capital. The proposal would not materially change the underlying rule finalized by the Board in July 2015.
The final rule established the criteria for identifying a firm as a GSIB and the methodology a GSIB is required to use to determine its risk-based capital surcharge, which corresponds to the systemic risk of that firm.
The proposed amendments clarify that GSIBs must continue to calculate their surcharges using year-end data, while their related surcharge data will be reported on a quarterly basis. The proposal also clarifies that these firms are required to compute their surcharge scores using billions of dollars. The amendments also provide additional information on how GSIBs should calculate their short-term wholesale funding scores, which help to determine their surcharges, during the rule's transition period.
