Consumers have started the year in confident mood despite the chancellor warning the country faces a “dangerous cocktail of new threats”, as the outlook for jobs improves and the cost of a weekly shop is cut by low petrol prices and intense competition among the supermarket.

Rough week ahead for Australian share market amid ongoing turbulence in China

Ongoing weakness in global markets fuelled by the fall in the Chinese market and currency will mean a rough start to the Australian share market.
The ASX 200 was down 20 points on Friday, the S&P 500 fell 1.1% and the Dow Jones index was down 1% on the back of a volatile week, AMP Capital’s chief economist Shane Oliver said on Sunday.
