The National Institute for the Defense of Competition and Protection of Intellectual Property (INDECOPI) was created in November 1992 by Decree Law No. 25868.
Its functions market promotion and protection of consumer rights. Additionally, in the Peruvian economy fosters a culture of fair and honest competition, protecting all forms of intellectual property: from logos and copyrights to patents and biotechnology.
INDECOPI is a specialized public agency under the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, with legal personality under public law. Consequently, with functional, technical, economic, budgetary and administrative autonomy (Legislative Decree No.1033).
As a result of its work in promoting the standards of fair and honest competition between agents of the Peruvian economy, INDECOPI is currently conceived as a service entity with a strong concern for promoting a culture of quality to achieve full customer satisfaction: citizens, business and the state.
