We also wrap up the winners and losers from the Tax Forum and examine what actions we are likely to see out of the talkfest. Techcompany News & Analysis: Can Twitter ever turn a profit? App developers mixed on iPhone 4S, First thoughts on the Kindle Fire

Thursday, October 6th 2011

It’s no surprise that everyone is talking about Apple’s iPhone 4S, but what is a surprise is how mixed the reaction to the new device has been. With many expecting a totally new iPhone – an Apple doing nothing to adjust expectations - the upgrade was always going to disappoint some commentators.

But Australian developers have told us this morning that while they believe the gadget is impressive, it’s certainly not a massive step up, and definitely not what many customers were hoping for. Only time will tell whether the iPhone 4S is a success, but one thing is certain – Google is putting more weight being Android than ever before and Apple cannot afford a misstep.

This week in TechCompany, we look at a fascinating story on Twitter which questions whether the micro-blogging giant is too big to ever turn a profit, while Dave Stevens looks at the “other” trends you need to know about in IT and Paul Wallbank examines why mobile payments haven’t taken off in Australia just yet.
